These Clootie Dumplings are produced by Ruth Noble in Peebles. Here's how she describes them:
"Sweet and fruity, with a hint of spice, these Clootie dumplings are suitable for vegetarians. To bring clootie dumplings up-to-date in terms of health-consciousness they've substituted the traditional cholesterol-laden beef suet with rapeseed oil which is high in unsaturated fat.
We use no eggs or nuts in our recipe, and each clootie contains almost 50% raisins and apple, providing a good serving of healthy fruit."
More than half of the ingredients in Ruths Clootie dumplings are made with Organic ingredients and the suger used is Fair Trade sugar. The more traditional version she offers is made with milk, but Ruth also uses locally produced Traquair Ale to give people a slightly richer tasting option. Lastly, they even come packed in muslin cloths and ribbons that you can re-use.
A great product from a thoughtful local, independent producer.
The standard sized Clootie Dumpling serves 2-3 people. To make sure these Clootie Dumplings reach you fresh and in the best possible condition, Ruth will mail your Clootie dumpling to you direct.
